Zeke Sweets is sweet! Loved this slow-burn romance.

"Wow. The force of a thousand suns. All that intensity focused on me. I was not prepared for it."

Gabby has hidden herself away for years after an accident that left her scarred for life. Now, she's finally at university and she plans to do ALL the things during her senior year. She has a bucket list and needs help, and somehow or other, the quiet, serious, Zeke Sweets is helping her tick things off her list.

"I don't know what it is about her, but when she's in the room, my palms tingle with anticipation like I'm about to walk out on the floor before a game."

Zeke is on the cusp of NBA stardom. He's wholly focused on his future career, which leaves little room for anything else, including relationships. However, there's something about Gabby and her innocent pleasure in the silly things that hook him in, no matter how hard he fights it. She makes him question whether it's possible to have a successful career and love, at the same time.

"She's so f*cking beautiful and innocent and I want to ruin her and worship her all at the same time."

These two were simply adorable! Gabby is by turns confident and outgoing, but also horribly self-conscious of her physical scars. I thought she was absolutely charming in her joy of the things on her bucket list, and the way she wanted to grab life by the horns. Zeke is strong and quiet but so thoughtful, supportive and indulgent. Their relationship was a slow burn build from friendship to lovers. I loved their connection and how well they gelled together. They were beautiful!

I can’t make out her form until I’m halfway down to the water. She sits on the dock, feet dangling above the water. She’s so fucking beautiful and innocent and I want to ruin her and worship her all at the same time. I’m not going to do either of those things, though. I’m going to stick to the path. The path doesn’t include dating. The path doesn’t even include fun most days and Gabby deserves days that are all about fun. She turns her head as I get closer and there’s that big Gabby smile pointed right at me. “Hey.” “Hey, yourself. Whatcha doing down here all alone?” “I thought we could cross skinny dipping off both our lists.” My brows raise. “What about your tattoo?” She shrugs. “It’s been a week. I’m willing to risk a quick dip if you are.” I rub a hand over my chin. I’m not ashamed of my body, but I’d also prefer not to have my black ass photographed if one of my teammates happen to stumble upon us. Last year one of the sophomores got drunk at a party and passed out naked in the bathroom. I have no idea why he was naked in there, but the photos of his hairy ass were everywhere. My ass is baby smooth and awesome, but I still don’t want it on display. “Well, come on before someone sees us.” She’s unbuttoning her shorts and pushing them down while I stand there gawking. The sight of her bare legs puts me in motion. Just not a part of me I want in motion right now. I turn around, give my dick a little pep talk that includes promises I won’t be a celibate asshole forever, and then undress to my boxers. “You decent?” I ask over my shoulder. “No. Oh my God, don’t look.” She laughs, I hear her footsteps on the dock and then a splash. A few seconds later, she calls, “Your turn.” I push my boxers down and then hold my hands over my junk, semi-erect still because promises be damned, and take two large steps before jumping in beside her. Her happy squeals direct my entry into the lake as I clear the water from my eyes. We’re treading water buck naked not two feet from one another. It’s a little trippy. I haven’t spent time with a girl naked like this in… well forever. If I’m naked and this close to a girl, it’s for one purpose and though I’m a gentleman, of course, it’s not about anything but carnal desires being met. Thrusts and grunts and release. I don’t think it would be like that with Gabby. No, I know it wouldn’t be like that, which is another reason it can’t happen. “So now what?” she asks, suddenly looking a little nervous. “Far as I know, this is all there is to it. How do you feel?” “Naked.” She laughs. “But also like a rebel.” She splashes water at me playfully and I do it right back. “Think anyone can see us?” I shrug. “Maybe. Do you want them to see you?” “God, no,” she says too fast. The excitement in her eyes is a dead giveaway. I think Gabby likes the thrill, the possibility of being caught, and God help me because I want nothing more than to keep her safe while she explores every sordid fantasy.
