✮ BLURB ✮

When I envisioned Zara Logan dropping to her knees in front of me, this wasn’t what I had in mind...

I was expecting a lot less glaring and a lot more moaning.

Instead, she's proposing an enticing deal that I can't bear to walk away from.

To land one of the city’s biggest clients, she wants us to put our differences aside and play fake fiancรฉs for the next thirty days.

So, I slip the diamond ring onto her finger and agree to play the perfect fiancรฉ. How hard can this be?

A hell of a lot harder than I thought...

She’s infuriatingly stubborn and she thinks I’m a cocky jerk with an enormous ego. (She’s right, but I can definitely back it up...)

As our long days stretch into even later nights, it’s getting harder to remember we’re only playing pretend, which means one thing.

She won’t be faking it for long…

The Proposal is a brand-new series from Maya Hughes. Get ready for a steamy, fake fiancรฉ romance to kick off the Cupcakes & Cocktails series.

Thoroughly enjoyed this sweet, sexy romance by a new-to-me author.

"Heart hammering, blood pounding, my hands itching to touch...to memorize a man I'd only just met."

Carrie Bishop is in Vegas for the weekend to let her hair down before facing redundancy at work on Monday. When a handsome stranger saves her dignity and helps her complete a scavenger hunt - one that ends in a fake marriage at a wedding chapel. One incredible night later and she wakes up alone to the realisation that there was nothing fake about their marriage.

"The strangest part of it all was that I wanted to find her, to find her. Not to lose her once again."

James Arden is desperate to find his wife. He never expects her to walk into his new office - the last employee to get the boot following his takeover. However, he manages to rope her into helping him with pre-wedding activities for his brother - buying him some time to convince her to give them a chance.

"Warmth and woman exploded against my tongue as it delved into her mouth, tasting temptation and thrill with every stroke."

This was such a fab story! I adored Carrie and James' whirlwind tour of Vegas and their scavenger hunt. I loved his determination to win her over, how sexy he found her, and how protective and caring he was of her. They had sizzling chemistry - it was tangible thing between them. Carrie had some serious hang-ups with good reason, but I adored her likeable, beautiful personality. I can't wait to catch up with this author's other books.

5 Little-Whisper-Stars!!
Top Read 2020

5 Little-Whisper-stars!!

What an awesome read!! Surfers, sexiness, suspicion and secrets. This had a fabulous twisty plot and I couldn't get enough of it!

"But you know what, Breeze? I started to like this whisper of a girl. Calm. She flows like the air. Understated but powerful. Potent. Precious. She's beautiful."

Breeze has always been the quiet one in her friendship with Violet. She's always been the observer on the sidelines in their life, whilst Violet was always the demanding one in the limelight. They're an odd couple but their friendship works and is precious to her.

"Kai and Chase were my strongest connection to Violet, and I wasn't giving that up without a fight."

Chase Jones is Violet's twin brother and also Breeze's friend and longtime crush. Kai Lewis is Violet's bad boy boyfriend and the only thing Breeze has in common with him is their love of surfing.

When Violet is viciously ripped from their lives, Breeze is suddenly adrift, missing the sun that her life revolved around. Not only does she have to contend with her piercing grief, but she has to deal with Chase's sudden attention and his moodiness, as well as Kai's surprising behaviour.

"I felt too raw and felt too guilty to even comprehend that, but I also felt like we were on the verge of something new."

This was SUCH AN AMAZING READ. Just as you think you know the answer, something else makes you question it again. This story was so well written, stringing the reader along until the very final revelation at the end of the book. There were plenty of surfing analogies in this story and, seriously, the reader has to hang on for dear life on the surfboard that is the storyline. Breeze is the main voice of the story as we follow her through her grief, confusion and search for answers. This story was as much about her personal journey and growth as a young woman without her outgoing friend to shield herself behind, and becoming a stronger, independent person willing to fight for what she loves.

"We're just souls traveling through time. Trying to survive. Trying to find love and meaning and happiness."

This story was complex, compelling and brimming with themes: friendship, family, forbidden, sexual attraction, suspense, danger, suspicion, secrets, grief and love. It was EVERYTHING!

I have always loved to read. In kindergarten, I was the weird kid sitting in the reading nook by myself instead of trying to get more snacks. I’m excited to be putting my own voice on the page and watching a story I helped create come to life. I still love to read, but I also really like snacks.

I grew up in Chicago but recently moved back to the Dallas area where I live with my husband and son.

I have my Bachelor of Science in Biology. I spent a year researching chimpanzees and gorillas while I was in Chicago and then I spent another two months on a chimpanzee sanctuary trying to convince headstrong chimps to cooperate. Pro tip - grapes are a pretty hot bargaining tool. They work wonders with my toddler too.

RELEASE BLITZ & REVIEW: Somethin' About That Boy by Lani Lynn Vale

Release Date: June 23

Banner Spurlock knew the moment that he walked into Kilgore High School and saw Perry Street that life was about to get interesting.

Forced to move due to a problem at home, a problem in the form of his ex-best friend hating him for something that Banner’s father did, Banner doesn’t think very much could improve in his life.

He left his status as king of Benton High School behind and moved to a new school where not only would he have to try out for a new football team and prove himself, but he’d also have to find a place for himself in the hierarchy.

Only, the moment that he arrives, he knows that finding a place for himself won’t be too hard. Especially when his reputation follows him all the way to Kilgore, Texas.

***
Perry Street hates school. She hates her peers—most of them anyway—and she hates her classes. All she wants to do is finish her senior year, graduate, and find a place that will give her a full scholarship so that she doesn’t have to be stuck here forever.

That’s her goal, anyway.

Then she walks into first period, on her first day of her senior year, and sits down. Seconds later, he walks in and changes every single plan she’s ever made.

It isn’t long before Perry starts to fall for the bad boy who doesn’t care who he does and doesn’t impress. The boy makes her heart flutter. The boy makes her want things that she’s never wanted before. Not ever.

The boy brings trouble with him that nearly kills her.

Really enjoyed this new adult romance!

"She most certainly wasn't a girl-next-door type. She was a 'I want your panties on my bedroom floor' type."

Banner Spurlock is sent to live with his brother when his school life becomes untenable and potentially dangerous. On his first day as a senior, things start to look up when he meets the beautiful Perry Street. As a QB, he is quickly taken under the football guys' wings. Unfortunately, when he finds out that his reason for relocating has followed him to Kilgore, he begins to fear not only for himself, but for the girl he's started to really care about.

"Just then, I finally realized that I was siting in Banner's lap. I. Was sitting. In Banner's lap."

Perry Street has always been something of an oddity in Kilgore. However, she's never been interested in being part of the popular crowd, content to play volleyball and hang out with her best girls. When the hot new guy at school shows a marked interest in her, not only does she have to contend with unwanted attention from the popular mean girls, but also from Banner's nemesis.

"I've wanted to taste you forever."

This was such a fab read. The main characters in this story were pretty mature and responsible. Banner is a fantastic guy - thoughtful, protective and devoted. He was willing to fight for what he wanted and what he cared about. I loved Perry's independence and the fact that she trod her own path. She was stunning and athletic and really couldn't give a hoot about being popular. This story took me a little by surprise as it wasn't quite what I expected. There was the usual high school goings on with mean girls and popular jocks, but there was also a little danger and fear, as well as some angst as Banner and Perry planned for their future together. I adored both their families and feel that I need to go and read about them, too.

RELEASE BLITZ & REVIEW: Loud Mouth by Avery Flynn

Release Date: June 22

I never meant to say a word, not one single word.

But I did.

Now because of something I leaked—without even realizing it—I've inadvertently broken up one of the Ice Knights’ most legendary bromances. And worse—I've kicked hockey star Ian Petrov's grumpy level to insane levels of grump.

And what could make it worse? How about the two of us being trapped together in a remote cabin after a massive blizzard. Neither of us can leave. Just us, the snow, his resentment, and OMG sexual tension so thick it would take a snowplow to break through it.

I’ve got to get out of here before I do something even dumber than I’ve already done and kiss the sexy with his misplaced anger and perfect pecs. That would be the worst, the absolute worst. But… would it be terrible if we gave in? Just a little? It’s not like we’re ever going to have to spend time together again.

Until the next morning when we’re told we have to play chummy for the press until this news cycle blows over.

Caroline's Review
5 Stars

Really enjoyed this story! It was funny, sexy and a little bit angsty.

"Her hands still in his, he glanced up at her, his eyes dark with a possessive lust that made her core clench."

Ian Petrov's world has pretty much fallen apart following stunning revelations about his family. Feeling bitter and sorry for himself, he plans to hide away in a cabin and get drunk on scotch. However, he doesn't count on the reason for his life imploding to be sharing the cabin with him. And when they get snowed in, there's no denying the attraction between them.

"When it came to Ian Petrov, she didn't want now - she wanted forever."

Shelby Blanton feels terrible. She runs off to a remote cabin to lick her wounds but her worst nightmare is upon her when she ends up trapped with the one guy in the world that hates her. However, when things start to change between them, will it be a case of what happens in the cabin stays in the cabin, or do they have a chance for something more?

"He couldn't explain it. He didn't understand it. He just needed her. Period."

This was such a fab story. It was humorous, really sexy and filled with a certain amount of angst, as both Ian and Shelby battle with their own personal demons. I loved the connection between them and their chemistry was sizzling and compelling. Ian was his own man with a clear idea of his path but he also needed to change how he perceived himself. Shelby was a strong, independent heroine. I admired her intellect and her feistiness. A thrilling and heartwarming read!

English Prep stands tall with its ivy-covered exterior and old, wrought-iron doors. The stone gargoyles sit at the school’s entrance, knowing just as much as anyone: I don’t belong.
Once upon a time, I did. I belonged in the “it” crowd with all the other well-endowed kids, but now, I am no longer welcome.
Not after five years away from this place.
Not after the scandal that landed me on the wrong side of the tracks.
I’d be lying if I said I’m not looking forward to seeing the one person who was always by my side. My old best friend. My safe place.
Only, Christian isn’t the same boy I left behind. His cold, brooding, devastatingly attractive glare sends chills down my spine. My old best friend doesn’t welcome me with open arms, and I have no idea why. Lies continue to fall from our lips.
Christian wants me gone.
But I’m determined to stay.

My heart tumbled in my chest as I blew out a shaky breath. I didn’t think I’d be this nervous. The amount of times I’d walked into a new school should have prepared me for this moment. If I was good at anything, it was putting on a brave face in front of my new peers. Squaring my shoulders and straightening my spine was like second nature to me. But there was a pit deep in my belly. My bravery was wavering. I was standing on a cliff, looking down into the depths of fear and humiliation. Would Christian remember me? Would anyone? I wasn’t popular by any means in middle school, but was anyone, really? We were all awkward and trying to find our footing in the midst of going through puberty. I might not have been memorable from middle school, but my parents surely were.
I remembered how these families worked. I knew that social hierarchies determined the food chain in this town. Screw the natural revolving of the world—the richest of the rich turned the planet on its axis. I used to be one of them. But now I wasn’t.
My heart climbed into my throat as the door swung open. The small receptionist pushed me forward and mumbled something to the teacher. I kept my eyes locked onto the green chalkboard instead of swinging my gaze around the room. I reread the words “20th century poets: Sylvia Plath”, but between each word I read, I silently muttered, “If you show them fear, they’ll eat you alive.” And if I looked at any of my new classmates in the eye right now, I’d blow my poker face. I needed to find my footing. The anxious and panicky girl inside of me was trying to claw her way out to find some type of anchor to hold her steady. And that was when I did it. That was when I let my eyes scan the room, and I found him almost instantly.
Christian Powell. My old best friend. Our eyes caught, and hope blossomed through my chest like a sunflower finding the sun. His eyes were the same shade of gray: stormy, grounding, always pinning me to my spot with comfort. But then his eyes narrowed, and his razor-sharp jaw became even sharper. The gray of his eyes turned to stone the very second the teacher introduced me.
“Class, this is Hayley Smith. She’s new here; please welcome her and offer help when needed.”
The entire classroom was silent. No one muttered a single syllable. I didn’t even think a breath was let out. Except for Christian. He was fuming in his seat. His fists clenched tightly. I wanted to turn around on my heel and go right back to Oakland High.
But I wasn't that girl anymore. I didn’t bow down to anyone.
Welcome to English Prep, Hayley.
