Ainsley Decker and Mason Bradley's story, Unsurprisingly Complicated, was one of the earlier books I read by this author and I loved it back then. To have their story rewritten and expanded into a duet - WOW!
I can't say enough good things about the first part of their story. It was emotional, painful, super angsty, with moments of brightness as Ainsley and Mason cement their friendship. They lead completely separate lives but Mason is always there when she needs him. We get a fuller view of how Mason forms his career and business, and also more in-depth view of Ainsley's troubled relationship with Porter Kendrick, as well as her difficult relationship with her parents. I loved the closeness and camaraderie she shared with her brothers.
Honestly, it's been seven years since I read the original story, and with the rewrite and addition of new content, it felt like reading a brand new story, and it didn't take long for me to become invested in the characters' well-being and happiness. Absolutely loved it!

Gah! Seriously, such an emotional conclusion to this duet. Ainsley and Mason had a hell of journey to their HEA. Both had serious issues surrounding having relationships, without the added complication that they were rarely in the same place at the same time. I was so invested in their happy outcome. I really needed Mason to get his head out of his butt and see what was right in front of him for the taking.
This duet was brilliant, angsty and sexy. I loved renewing my acquaintance with both characters and seeing the rest of the Decker family again. This author has written about some fabulous families since the Deckers, but they will always have an extra-special place in my heart. ❤️
