Absolutely fabulous that this author is back and on form!
Mason and Lilah's story was almost old-school bully/enemies-to-lovers romance and I was right here for it!
"We'd never even kissed, but she'd left my insides a bloody, mangled mess."
We had a summer of falling, a misunderstanding, a pseudo-bully scenario, followed by a revelation that changed everything and had our hero scrambling to make things right. Throw in a wealthy, controlling parent and you know heartbreak is coming!
"There's no change that would make being away from you worth it to me."
I was completely hooked from the start and couldn't put this book down. Lilah was downtrodden but didn't let life pull her down. She was stoic and determined to follow 'The Plan'. I felt sorry for her and admired her in equal measure. Mason was the one that got me, though. He was stuck between a rock and a hard place. His family situation was difficult for all sorts of reasons and he wanted to do what was best without having to sacrifice his relationship with Lilah. I knew this book was part of a trilogy so, yes, I knew the storyline was heading somewhere I didn't want it to go, but it didn't hurt any less! Roll on book 2!
