RELEASE BLITZ & REVIEW: My Darling Duke by Stacy Reid

“Lush, beautifully written, and deeply romantic, My Darling Duke will sweep you off your feet. My heart was lost to this couple from the very start.” —Amalie Howard, author of The Beast of Beswick
Miss Katherine Danvers has always been a wallflower. But now, with her family on the brink of financial ruin, she finds herself a desperate wallflower. To save her family, she'll do anything. Luckily, she has the perfect plan...
She’ll impress the ton by simply announcing she is engaged to the reclusive and mysterious Duke of Thornton, Alexander Masters, and secure strong matches for her sisters. No one has heard from the duke in years. Surely he’ll never find out before her sisters’ weddings, and she can go back to her own quiet life.
Soon, though, everything is out of control. At first, it’s just a few new ball gowns on the duke’s accounts. Then, it’s interviews with reporters eager for gossip. Before she knows it, Katherine has transformed herself into Kitty Danvers, charming and clever belle of the ton—with everyone eager to meet her thankfully absent fiancé.
But when the enigmatic Alexander Masters suddenly arrives in the city, dashing and oh so angry, he demands retribution. Except not in the way Katherine expected…

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Oh, how I adored this book! I’ve missed reading historical fiction and this novel made me thirst for more!

"How marvelous if we should all be guilty of doing something wicked, just for once."

Miss Katherine AKA Kitty Danvers has the weight of her family's well-being and future on her shoulders. After suffering as a wallflower for four seasons, she has finally worked up a wild and sinful plan to turn the family fortunes around, and give her sisters the chance to make good matches during the London season. With any luck, it will all be done and dusted in a few months, and the unwitting accomplice to her ruse would be none the wiser.

"He felt an odd compulsion stirring inside him to understand this stranger's drive and complexities."

Alexander Masters, Duke of Thornton, has been a recluse for about ten years since a terrible tragedy left him scarred physically and mentally. However, as hidden away in Scotland as he is, news of his alleged fiancée reaches his ears, and he cannot help but be intrigued by such a bold, impudent creature. He is so beguiled as to be lured to London and brave the stares of the ton to meet her himself, even though he could never offer her a future as his true duchess.

"Suddenly he wanted Kitty Danvers with all her bold impudence, reckless heart, and vivacious personality...to belong to him."

This story was gorgeous! Kitty is just the type of heroine I love in historical romances. She's resilient, intrepid, singular and quirky. I loved her bravery and her manner with the Duke. Alexander was a man not to be pitied. He was fiercely proud, with immense strength of character and fortitude. He was kind and had a great sense of humour. I adored how intriguing he found Kitty - he was completely in awe of her and her originality. His sexual brazenness with her made me laugh but I was delighted by Kitty's response to his teasing. She treated him and looked at him as a desirable, undamaged man. His vulnerability plucked at my heartstrings. I was desperate for them to get their HEA. They had such a fantastic connection and considerable chemistry.

"For the first time in years, he felt the shudder of his soul and heard the echo of his heartbeat."

This story was so beautiful written, with an audacious plot that made for an emotional and uplifting read. Simply fabulous!

“We will have to serve each other.”
The truth of this observation struck her most forcibly. The words settled between them in the small space. The duke was without his valet and manservant, and he was a sodden, muddied mess. This would go beyond a shameless massage of his damaged muscles. His boots would have to be removed. His clothes. Her breath panted harshly.
Dear God. And so would hers, and without a lady’s maid.
Good heavens.
“I see,” she murmured, thoroughly vexed with the heat flushing through her body and up to her cheeks. She couldn’t have stopped her blush if her life depended on it.
“Are you up to the task, then?” he asked, his tone coolly mocking, his eyes watchful. The bonds of probity and all that was proper shattered and dissolved at her feet like fragile chinaware.
“Ah, your expressive face reveals your worry.” She folded her arms across her waist and glared at him. His slow smile made her heart beat suddenly faster.
“Do not fear— wretched, drowned cats are not to my taste,” the duke said with mock sympathy. “A tigress would be another matter entirely.” The wretched tease! She released a breath she hadn’t been aware she held. “Of course I am up to the task,” she said with calm practicality. And she would find some way to cease the infernal blushes!
“I will accept your aid, Miss Danvers, but only after I have assisted you from those sodden garments and dried your hair. My conscience could not bear your death.”
“I beg your pardon?” He pressed a hand against his heart and bowed.“It would be my honor to be your lady’s maid.”

REVIEW: The Forbidden Man by Karina Halle

The Forbidden Man by Karina Halle

An epic standalone forbidden age-gap sports romance from the New York Times Bestselling author of The Play and My Life in Shambles

Starting over was her only option.

Forty-years old and still reeling from a public and painful divorce, Thalia Blackwood is looking for a fresh start, somewhere far away from her upside down life. When she’s offered a new job as the sports therapist for a football (soccer) team, she jumps at the chance. This is just what she needs to leave the heartbreak and shame of Manchester behind, trading it in for the warmth and hopeful vibrancy of Madrid.

He was her only desire.

Twenty-three year old Alejo Albarado is rising up the ranks in his career. As the charming forward for the Real Madrid team, Alejo’s life revolves around women, parties, and being a tabloid darling, that is until the new sports therapist joins the team.

Their passion could not be ignored.

What starts out as a strictly professional relationship between Thalia and the young Spanish player, slowly evolves into something more. Much more.

Their relationship was forbidden.

But their combustible chemistry and simmering sexual tension can only go so far—should Thalia give into Alejo’s advances, she’s at risk of not only losing her job, but succumbing to a much younger man will drag her through the spotlight again.

Alejo might be worth that risk.

Unless he breaks her heart in the process.

Beautiful, super sexy and unabashedly romantic story! Adored it!

"He has some kind of power over me that's going to be my downfall."

Thalia Blackwood is just coming out the other side of a painful divorce and finding her feet again with a new job at Real Madrid. She is a unique woman in a male-dominated world and she's worked hard to get where she is. However, meeting the gorgeous, and much younger, Alejo Albarado, puts her career in jeopardy. They work together and any relationship between is strictly forbidden.

"She's off-limits. The forbidden fruit. And I'm terrible at pretending I don't want a taste."

Alejo doesn't care about the age difference. Thalia is stunning and smart. He's persistent in his pursuit of her. He knows she feels the undeniable attraction between them. He's fully invested in her and wants her to be just as invested in him. In them. In their relationship. Unfortunately, public opinion, their careers, and the forbidden aspect of their relationship are factors that can't be ignored.

"He kissed me and my world started over. A blank slate. Erasing the past. Creating a future."

This novel really lives up to the hype! I thought it was beautifully written. Alejo is dreamy as hell! He might be young and cocky, but he's also incredibly mature. I loved his confidence which was tempered by a bit of vulnerability. I loved his romantic poeticism and the way he expressed himself. I loved his optimism and belief that they could overcome anything.

"This isn't over between us. It's just the beginning. I've had a taste of you. I'm not going to want anything else."

Thalia has been through a lot - she's been hurt and humiliated. Alejo is a beautiful balm to her self-esteem, her confidence and her libido. Oh my god! When he finally breaks down her walls, they were so hot and tender together. The chemistry between them was absolutely scorchio!!

This was such a passionate love story that was incredibly hard to put down. It was well-written, full of sizzling tension, flaming-hot intimacy, and pure heart-melting tenderness.

REVIEW: Untouchable by Sam Mariano

Untouchable by Sam Mariano

The bully isn't supposed to win.

Senior year was off to a rough start: lube in my locker, panties on my front porch, unimaginative name-calling. See, I got a player suspended from the football team for harassing me, and in my small Texas town, you don’t mess with the football players—even if they mess with you first.

I didn’t care if it was an unpopular thing to do; I stood up for myself… and in doing so, opened Pandora’s Box.

I never dreamed I would attract the attention of locally worshipped star quarterback, Carter Mahoney. Never imagined his coveted attention would turn out to be such a nightmare. Beneath his carefully constructed façade lurks a monster, a predator looking for the perfect prey to play with. Now, since I’m the girl no one likes or believes, I guess I’m the perfect target for his dark games and twisted desires.

After surviving my first encounter with his casual depravity, all I really want is for Carter to leave me alone.

But all he seems to want is me.

Warning: This book is provocative. It is categorized as DARK ROMANCE for a reason. It will not be for everyone. If you are a reader with certain triggers or sensitivities common to the dark romance genre, please heed the author’s note at the beginning of this book.

Caroline's Review

✮✮✮✮✮

Good god! This book!! I couldn’t put it down. It was dark, frustrating, incredibly compelling, and hot as hell. I loved it!!

"If you're looking for a Prince Charming and I'm your best shot, you are in a truly dire situation."

Honestly, no woman in her right mind would want to be with Carter Mahoney but he's an unstoppable force. He's like an act of God that cannot be held back - a devastating hurricane, a catastrophic flood, a ravaging fire. I kid you not!! He is an alpha of the first degree - at only 18, too! The power and influence he holds is astonishing and not a little bit frightening.

"I can make you do a lot of things, but I can't make you trust me. That, you have to give me."

Zoey Ellis is a worthy opponent. She's a remarkable young woman who walks her own path. She's a prodigiously strong, smart character and I completely admired her spunk.

This was a roller-coaster of a story, as we follow Zoey and Carter from the dark and disturbing beginning of their relationship, and journey through their battle of wills and uncover the true Carter beneath his untouchable façade. I loved how their relationship developed - the truth and honesty between them, and the sheer fortitude that Zoey exhibits. I loved seeing the tiny chinks of vulnerability beneath Carter's immoral and arrogant exterior. Told from Zoey's POV, it's actually very clear to the reader that in spite of Zoey's doubts, fears and mistrust of Carter, he is fully invested in her and a future together.

If you're looking for a bully romance with a strong heroine, a bulldozer of an alpha, and plenty of stark sexuality and raw honesty, this is the book for you!

Caroline's Review
✮✮✮✮✮

Smokin’ HAWT little quickie!!

This was a story which was, at once, clinical but highly erotic. It was an exploration of a woman's sexuality and self-discovery aided along by a man who remained seemingly detached, until her effect on him starts to crack through his aloof demeanour.

"I love how you let me do anything to you. So inexperienced yet so receptive."

I was wholly intrigued by this story and what would happen next. Lana was open and willing, if somewhat trepidatious, in her explorations. She was pretty brave considering she was putting her trust in a complete stranger. James was something of a mystery that is unraveled towards the end of the story, but there's no denying that Lana and her personal journey is the star of the story.

This was a thrilling and rather exciting story and just enough of a quick read between longer novels. Looking forward to the next one in the series!

Excerpt

I didn’t know what I’d gotten myself into. Recently divorced, I’d met a young woman who just listened to me rant. I didn’t know why I felt the need to expound my current sexual status on her, but the dating apps had frustrated me. Who could you trust on there? Singles adventure clubs? The annual fees were high, and only half the activities interested me. And then there were the simple singles bars, which I entered once before turning right back around and leaving.
Being unmarried sucked in this aspect. The issue was I still wanted sex. I didn’t want to be alone with only my fingers. I wanted the feel of a man—the wet of his tongue, the curl of his fingers, and the strength of his hands on me—and I was getting desperate.
“Have you ever considered swinging?” she suggested, and I nearly fell off my chair. A southern Florida coffee shop seemed like the last place to have this kind of discussion and with a stranger, no less, but she didn’t look like a social deviant. In fact, she looked normal. Average in height, dark brunette hair, the body of someone still youthful, with friendly eyes, and a wedding band.
“Never thought of it,” I said after choking on my tea.
She paused for a moment as if she were assessing me and then added, “Not everyone who swings is married. Some are in relationships, and some are single. People participate in all manner of combinations. Couples who want a third party or a single participant looking for a couple who shares. Sometimes, it’s just a mutual agreement between three, but the term comes more so from those looking to experiment within a relationship.”
I stare down at my paper placemat, uncertain how to respond. It sounded crazy and a bit obscene, but I wasn’t one to judge. I was jealous, in a way. Maybe if Stan and I had experimented more or been a bit more adventurous, things wouldn’t have gotten to the point where they ended. Especially with him in the bed of his secretary.
“Here’s my name,” she said, offering it on a paper napkin along with a phone number. “If you have any questions. Otherwise, I’d recommend contacting this number. He’s a doctor.” She winked after handing me the napkin, and I took it, smiling good-naturedly even though I knew I’d never call.
However, the numbers haunted me, and a week later, when I was cleaning out the old receipts in my purse, the napkin remained intact with her perfect script and two phone numbers, the second marked with an asterisk.
“Dr. Lubton’s office,” a masculine voice answers on the second ring, and the professional confidence in his voice surprises me.
“I…I’m looking for the doctor.” I swallow back the sudden stutter. “Jessica DeMarco suggested I call.”
A heavy pause of silence weighs through the phone for a second, and I wonder if I’ve lost the connection. “Hello?”
“Were you looking for a full exam?” he questions, and I remember Jessica mentioning to request such a thing. I nod, and then recall he can’t see me.
“Yes.”
“And will your husband be joining you?” I blink down at the napkin, pinched between my fingers.
“I don’t have a husband.” Silence falls again, and after another weighted second, I ask, “Do I need one?”
A soft chuckle fills the line, reassuring instead of mocking. “No.” Pause. “But may I ask if this will be your first exam of this sort?”
Closing my eyes, I think, What am I doing? I’m no longer certain, and not certain how to answer, so I go with the truth. “Yes.”
“I see, and for the purposes of an initial consultation, would you prefer an assistant be in the room?”
Did I want someone else present? A witness to my humiliation? Again, I wasn’t certain what exactly I was getting myself into, any more than I knew how to answer the question. Deciding that embarrassing myself in my lack of knowledge should best be done alone, I reply, “I think I’ll be okay without one.”
“Very well.” There wasn’t a hint of a smile or frown in his tone, but the continued smoothness of a true doctor. Good bedside manner. I want to laugh out loud at the pun. Instead, I wait for his instructions on how to proceed.
“I have an eleven o’clock on Thursday open.” It’s strange to consider he does this more than one time a day with more than one person, possibly more than one person at a time, and I realize I’m at great risk of making a fool of myself. Not to mention, can I muster my libido midmorning on a weekday? Remain open-minded, I remind myself. He called it a consultation. Maybe he really is a doctor. Maybe we only discuss options. Maybe he can explain what’s happening to me at forty-five as a single woman, previously married, and desperately seeking pleasure.
“Thursday would be fine,” I say, knowing my calendar is flexible. I’m a real estate agent. The southern Florida market ebbs and flows based on weather predictions and the hurricane season. I’m mildly successful but wish I was doing better. Older people are a key to my accomplishments, and I fear one day I’ll be classified as one of them. Old.
“Please dress comfortably and be prepared to sign a consent form.” The instructions surprise me, and once again, I nod. “I look forward to meeting you.”

Author Bio

Lana Brazen is the alter ego of a bestselling contemporary romance author who believes romance doesn’t need to end just because you crossed over forty. In a fantasy life, she was an anthropologist, a journalist and a world-famous novelist on the level of F. Scott Fitzgerald. None of that has happened. Instead, she’s written over twenty romances, mothered four children and remains with the one and only. Sometimes, she likes things a little hotter, spicier, raunchier than contemporary trysts, and so begins this chapter.

Loved the plot and loved the change of pace from this author’s previous books.

"We'd had plans...The world had been ours to discover together. Until he'd left."

Kathryn AKA Kit Samson was heartbroken when her childhood friend and love of her life disappeared out of said life on a mission of revenge. She spent years trying to erase memories of him but no one else every came close to replacing him. When she is suddenly face to face with him again, she fights tooth and nail to keep him at a distance, but those old feelings of love and loyalty catapult back to the surface and has her questioning whether to fight for him...for them...or to just let him go.

"I craved holding her like a soldier left stranded in a desert thought only of water."

Nate Wolfe had never planned to see his Kit again. He'd sacrificed a life with her for his quest to take down his father's murderer. He's so close to his goal that he can almost taste it, but something goes wrong and he finds himself back on US soil and under intense scrutiny. He also finds himself within kissing and holding proximity of the one woman who owns his heart. He's been so focused on his mission and had resigned himself to his fate, but to have her so close again makes him question his life and his quest.

"My biggest scar is the one I made when I left you. It tore me in half. And that will never heal."

I was enthralled by this story. It's completely different from what I've already read by this author but no less flawlessly executed. I enjoyed the explosive and visceral chemistry between Nate and Kit, as well as the element of suspense in the plot. Both were strong characters with strong convictions, as well as passionate hearts. A really fantastic read!

I. LOVED. THIS. BOOK!!

I first read about Emery and Nash in a novella from the Spring Fling anthology, and I fell in love with them then. I fell in love with them all over again in this beautiful full-length story about them.

They were so compelling together and their chemistry was sizzling hot! I absolutely loved the twisty plot, the hot scenes, and Emery's 'magic words' (which had me Googling constantly!)

"Girls like Emery Winthrop were the finish line, the goal you worked for, the place you strived to reach, the smile you saw when you closed your eyes."

Emery is such a good person with a good heart. She's stubborn, tenacious, and clever. I enjoyed her resourcefulness and her fire.

"Nash was Nash. All had to do was breathe, and people tripped over their feet to please him. He possessed a presence money couldn't buy."

Oh my gosh! Nash Prescott is seriously sexy! He was super alpha but underneath his tough veneer was a heart that had so much love and devotion to bestow on the lucky few. I loved how he couldn't pry Emery from under his skin. I loved how she made him question everything. I loved how she completely melted him.

"He was a storm, chaotic and volatile. But I never ran from storms. I chased them."

Gah! I'm mad for this book. Just absolutely adored it and I'm certain that this is my final Top Read of 2019. <3

I blinked away the post-orgasm haze as the light flickered on. When my sight cleared and I finally got a look at him, I froze. Shock bulldozed into my body, nearly pushing me back had I not been gripping his flesh.

Black spots scattered across my vision, and for a second, I thought I’d faint—and it would still be less mortifying than this.

Anything would be less mortifying than this.

It was almost too much to process.

To make it worse, he was still inside me.

This wasn’t Reed Prescott.

This was a six-foot-two, hazel-eyed Adonis with short black hair and bedroom eyes that made you picture him naked if you looked long enough. Only he was actually naked and, I repeat, still. Inside. Me.

Nash Prescott.

Reed’s older brother.

His nearly thirty-year-old brother.

“You’re soaking my brother’s bed,” Nash remarked as he leaned back against his pillow and took in the sight of me. He looked annoyed, liked I was a pest who had royally fucked up his weekend plans.

“You—I—What—” I floundered, my mouth opening and closing like a fish.

You slept with Nash Prescott.

Nash Fucking Prescott.

And it felt amazing.

Don’t freak out.

Don’t freak out.

Don’t freak out.

I was totally freaking out.

Nash raked his fingers through his hair, leaned over to snatch my robe, and tossed it to me. “Just fucking relax, would you? You’d think the goddamn orgasm would loosen you up.”

For a split second, all I could think was, you weren’t always like this.

Perhaps to other girls, but never to me.

Nash was a fierce protector, the guy who would stop by my table with his brown paper lunch bag when my mom ‘forgot’ to give me lunch money. And while we’d rarely talked, even when he would share his lunch, I always took comfort in knowing I had two protectors—Reed and Nash.

I don’t recognize you anymore.

The words sat at the tip of my tongue. I would never release them. That was Reed’s hill to die on.

I cared because I hated the way Nash stared at me sometimes, accusations stabbing me from his eyes. Snide comments I would never ask him about because I was loyal to Reed, and even talking to Nash felt like picking the wrong side.

I wanted to take a few seconds to study Nash, to process my mortification, to enjoy the aftershocks of my first orgasm, yet all I could feel was Nash’s overwhelming gravitational pull, one more dangerous than that of any other boy I’d ever met.

But Nash Prescott wasn’t a boy.

He was a man.

One who made me feel like the little girl I’d convinced myself I wasn’t.

My arms slipped through the robe. The second the tie wrapped around my waist, my body solidified. My underwear remained lost somewhere, but at least I was covered.

I ignored the sting of his derision, shook my head, and pushed aside the embarrassment. “Did you know?”

The sharp accusation unfazed him. He stretched his arms, drawing my attention to the deep V of his body. I clenched around him. A reflex. My mortified eyes flicked up in time to catch his cocked brow.

“I figured it out when you moaned my brother’s name while coming around my cock.”

Kent stood in the doorway, watching my uncle and dad until they disappeared. Then he stepped back into the kitchen and turned to face me.
I ignored his stare and focused on rinsing the dishes. I didn’t want to meet his eyes and let him see the fire that still simmered in my chest. I peeked from the side of my eye and took in the way he stood tall with his hands shoved into his pockets. He didn’t say anything until he was only a couple feet away.
“Did you have a good time with your boyfriend?”
“He’s not my boyfriend. And it was fine.” I paused when I set the plate in the dishwasher, giving him my full attention. “Why do you care?” I asked like a challenge. Maybe the same heat that singed me at the thought of him with another was burning through him too.
His brows lowered like he was also confused about why he’d asked. Finally, he shook his head and answered. “I don’t. It was just a friendly question.”
A friendly question?
I snorted at his bullshit answer. He’d stayed back just to ask a friendly question? I doubted it. I closed the dishwasher and stood to my full height, shoulders back like I was preparing for battle. He wanted to ask about my night, so I figured I’d return the favor.
“Well, then, as your friend, did you have a good night with your lady-friend at Voyeur?” The fire burning through me intensified as images of our night at Voyeur assaulted me. Did he get her off in the hall? Did he use kid-gloves with her?
He pulled his shoulders back to match my pose. We stood like we were preparing for a duel, and I didn’t even know what we were battling over. Who would cave first and admit to the jealousy? Who would give in to the tension tugging between us?
“Good enough, I didn’t have to close my eyes and imagine someone else.”
Everything in me froze and pulled tight like a screw was twisting the muscles in my body. My jaw clenched around the blow that almost knocked the wind out of me. His stance softened when he noticed the hurt his words had caused.
But I didn’t want his kid gloves.
I didn’t want his pity.
I wanted to land my own blow.
I wanted to make him squirm.
I relaxed my body and licked my lips, knowing I’d already won when his eyes dropped to track the movement of my tongue. “What would you say if I told you I imagined you?” His eyes widened a fraction, and the first drop of victory spread, urging me to go further. “As I sat astride him, I closed my eyes and thought about being tied down and at your mercy.”
“Careful, Olivia,” he managed to squeeze out past his tight lips and clenched jaw.
I smiled at his warning. I’d only just begun.
