RELEASE BLITZ & REVIEW: My Darling Duke by Stacy Reid

“Lush, beautifully written, and deeply romantic, My Darling Duke will sweep you off your feet. My heart was lost to this couple from the very start.” —Amalie Howard, author of The Beast of Beswick
Miss Katherine Danvers has always been a wallflower. But now, with her family on the brink of financial ruin, she finds herself a desperate wallflower. To save her family, she'll do anything. Luckily, she has the perfect plan...
She’ll impress the ton by simply announcing she is engaged to the reclusive and mysterious Duke of Thornton, Alexander Masters, and secure strong matches for her sisters. No one has heard from the duke in years. Surely he’ll never find out before her sisters’ weddings, and she can go back to her own quiet life.
Soon, though, everything is out of control. At first, it’s just a few new ball gowns on the duke’s accounts. Then, it’s interviews with reporters eager for gossip. Before she knows it, Katherine has transformed herself into Kitty Danvers, charming and clever belle of the ton—with everyone eager to meet her thankfully absent fiancé.
But when the enigmatic Alexander Masters suddenly arrives in the city, dashing and oh so angry, he demands retribution. Except not in the way Katherine expected…

Caroline’s Review

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Oh, how I adored this book! I’ve missed reading historical fiction and this novel made me thirst for more!

"How marvelous if we should all be guilty of doing something wicked, just for once."

Miss Katherine AKA Kitty Danvers has the weight of her family's well-being and future on her shoulders. After suffering as a wallflower for four seasons, she has finally worked up a wild and sinful plan to turn the family fortunes around, and give her sisters the chance to make good matches during the London season. With any luck, it will all be done and dusted in a few months, and the unwitting accomplice to her ruse would be none the wiser.

"He felt an odd compulsion stirring inside him to understand this stranger's drive and complexities."

Alexander Masters, Duke of Thornton, has been a recluse for about ten years since a terrible tragedy left him scarred physically and mentally. However, as hidden away in Scotland as he is, news of his alleged fiancée reaches his ears, and he cannot help but be intrigued by such a bold, impudent creature. He is so beguiled as to be lured to London and brave the stares of the ton to meet her himself, even though he could never offer her a future as his true duchess.

"Suddenly he wanted Kitty Danvers with all her bold impudence, reckless heart, and vivacious personality...to belong to him."

This story was gorgeous! Kitty is just the type of heroine I love in historical romances. She's resilient, intrepid, singular and quirky. I loved her bravery and her manner with the Duke. Alexander was a man not to be pitied. He was fiercely proud, with immense strength of character and fortitude. He was kind and had a great sense of humour. I adored how intriguing he found Kitty - he was completely in awe of her and her originality. His sexual brazenness with her made me laugh but I was delighted by Kitty's response to his teasing. She treated him and looked at him as a desirable, undamaged man. His vulnerability plucked at my heartstrings. I was desperate for them to get their HEA. They had such a fantastic connection and considerable chemistry.

"For the first time in years, he felt the shudder of his soul and heard the echo of his heartbeat."

This story was so beautiful written, with an audacious plot that made for an emotional and uplifting read. Simply fabulous!

“We will have to serve each other.”
The truth of this observation struck her most forcibly. The words settled between them in the small space. The duke was without his valet and manservant, and he was a sodden, muddied mess. This would go beyond a shameless massage of his damaged muscles. His boots would have to be removed. His clothes. Her breath panted harshly.
Dear God. And so would hers, and without a lady’s maid.
Good heavens.
“I see,” she murmured, thoroughly vexed with the heat flushing through her body and up to her cheeks. She couldn’t have stopped her blush if her life depended on it.
“Are you up to the task, then?” he asked, his tone coolly mocking, his eyes watchful. The bonds of probity and all that was proper shattered and dissolved at her feet like fragile chinaware.
“Ah, your expressive face reveals your worry.” She folded her arms across her waist and glared at him. His slow smile made her heart beat suddenly faster.
“Do not fear— wretched, drowned cats are not to my taste,” the duke said with mock sympathy. “A tigress would be another matter entirely.” The wretched tease! She released a breath she hadn’t been aware she held. “Of course I am up to the task,” she said with calm practicality. And she would find some way to cease the infernal blushes!
“I will accept your aid, Miss Danvers, but only after I have assisted you from those sodden garments and dried your hair. My conscience could not bear your death.”
“I beg your pardon?” He pressed a hand against his heart and bowed.“It would be my honor to be your lady’s maid.”
