REVIEW: Devil in Spring by Lisa Kleypas

Devil in Spring by Lisa Kleypas

An eccentric wallflower . . .

Most debutantes dream of finding a husband. Lady Pandora Ravenel has different plans. The ambitious young beauty would much rather stay at home and plot out her new board game business than take part in the London Season. But one night at a glittering society ball, she's ensnared in a scandal with a wickedly handsome stranger.

A cynical rake . . .

After years of evading marital traps with ease, Gabriel, Lord St. Vincent, has finally been caught by a rebellious girl who couldn't be less suitable. In fact, she wants nothing to do with him. But Gabriel finds the high-spirited Pandora irresistible. He'll do whatever it takes to possess her, even if their marriage of convenience turns out to be the devil's own bargain.

A perilous plot . . .

After succumbing to Gabriel's skilled and sensuous persuasion, Pandora agrees to become his bride. But soon she discovers that her entrepreneurial endeavors have accidentally involved her in a dangerous conspiracy-and only her husband can keep her safe. As Gabriel protects her from their unknown adversaries, they realize their devil's bargain may just turn out to be a match made in heaven . . .

Caroline's Review

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This book had me at "eccentric wallflower" followed by "Gabriel, Lord St Vincent" because Devil in Winter was my favourite Wallflower novel.

"She was beautiful. Complex. Frustrating. He'd never met a woman who was so wholly and resolutely herself."

Pandora Ravenel is a wallflower by choice, preferring to sit out on the periphery of ballrooms to avoid the dancing and boring chit-chat about the weather, whilst attempting to curb her runaway mouth and peculiar observations. She's an original with avant-garde ideas and feminist beliefs, and has no desire for marriage.

"One glance at him was enough to make her feel as if she were trying to breathe at high altitude."

Gabriel, Lord St Vincent, is intelligent, dynamic, looks like a young god, is a man of certain tastes, and heir to a dukedom. He enjoys his mistress and has no desire for marriage, and has avoided many marital traps.

"You do not want to marry me, my lord. I would be the worst wife imaginable."

When Pandora decides to do a good deed for a friend, she finds herself in a pickle, and suddenly at the centre of a big society scandal, which dictates that Gabriel does the honourable thing and marry her. However, Pandora is vehemently opposed to the idea, not wanting to lose her freedom and identity.

"You dazzle me, Pandora. Every beautiful, fascinating, kinetic molecule of you. The night we met, I felt you like an electric shock. Something about you calls to the devil in me."

They are all wrong for each other, but neither can ignore the compelling sparks between them that feel so right. Unfortunately, Gabriel has his work cut for him in trying to persuade Pandora to marry him.

THIS BOOK!! This book delivered every expectation I had, and more!! It did not disappoint in the least and was easily a Top Read 2017 for me. It was delightful, sexy, funny, and so tender.

Pandora is adorable and admirable. She gets herself into all sorts of scrapes but I loved her independence, her propensity to speak her thoughts, her curiosity, and her adventurous spirit. She really made me laugh with her witty tongue and her quirky observations.

Gabriel is the stuff of heroes! He's gorgeous, honourable, so smart, so thoughtful, and damn sexy! I loved how he challenged Pandora but didn't want to change her. I loved ALL. HIS. WORDS. His tenderness and passion had me swooning all over the place!

Gah! I started this book late last night and read through to the early hours. I just couldn't put it down. Absolutely, thoroughly recommend!!
