🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
5 easy-peasy stars!! Freakin' ADORED this story! It was funny, hot AF, and completely sucked me in.
"Our eyes locked in a heated, silent exchange. His hands tightened on mine, gripping them with an intensity that was thrilling."
Charlynn AKA Charly Hooper is fleeing a bad and desperate situation when she responds to a live-in 'Girl Friday' job ad to work for an old curmudgeon of a guy - or, so she believes. She's shocked when she realises that her new boss is the hot, older guy she hooked up with the night before. However, her desperation insists on him honouring her employment for at least two weeks, so that she can prove herself to him.
"She had no idea how much she messed with my head. Or what she did to my heart. I wasn't sure which one was more dangerous."
Maxx Reynolds can no longer ignore that he needs help - with his business and with his house. He's a loner and not looking for love, especially after being so badly burnt in the recent past. He's furious that Charly turns out to be the beautiful, young woman with whom he spent an unforgettable night, and not the young guy he was lead to believe she was. However, he doesn't have the heart to turn her away so he takes her home with him as planned, with an idea that she's not going to last very long with him. Unfortunately, she proves him wrong from the get-go, and worse, he finds it impossible to switch off his compelling attraction to her.
"I had been right. Red hadn't straightened my world. She had blown it to smithereens."
Gaaahhh!! This was such an ADDICTIVE read! Maxx is the epitome of grumpy. He's stern and growly, yet OMFG hella hot!! He doesn't trust easily yet he really looks after the people he cares about. I loved how Charly got under his skin. Her sweet and sassy ways amused him, her efficiency and intelligence impressed him, and her kindness touched him. She breathed life and love into his bitter heart. She was such a ray of sunshine and just so gosh-dang-it adorable! She came to bring order to his messy life but she unknowingly blew it apart and showed him what it was like to be happy again.
"She was life. Air. Passion."
This was such a fabulous feel-good, sexy read. I only ever re-read via audio so I hope this comes to Audible, as would love to listen to this story.
It did not disappoint"Charly is the unabashed ray of sunshine Maxx didn't realize he needed in his life. I enjoyed this book so much I read it one sitting and kicked myself for not savoring it longer!" - Donna Soluri, OnFrolic

"Can I—" She cleared her throat. "Can I buy you a drink?"
"Not needed."
"Please."
I couldn't say no to her pleading eyes and frankly, I really didn't want to. She had yet to remove her hand from my arm, and I had to admit I liked how it felt when she touched me. I sat beside her and Vanessa came over, sliding a beer my way.
"On the house. Thanks for taking out the garbage."
I picked up my glass. "He took himself out."
Vanessa placed a glass of wine in front of the girl. "On the house for you too. I like your style."
The girl picked up her wine with a shaking hand. "That's the second time in as many days I've had to rely on my self-defense class. I've never used it until now..." She trailed off.
I lifted my glass in a toast. "Always a first time."
She nodded, seemingly in thought.
I sensed a story there. I assumed she'd been hassled already this week, but I stayed quiet.
She turned to me, holding out her hand. "Thank you, Reynolds, for coming over. I appreciate it."
I looked at her hand, then had to tease her. "Is that safe?"
She laughed, the sound light. "Yes."
I shook her hand. "You're welcome." Then I furrowed my brow. "I think Vanessa said your name was Lynn?"
She shrugged and muttered something about it being close enough. Then she grinned, making two deep dimples in her face appear. They were right by the corners of her full lips, making her expression mischievous. "You asked her my name?"
"You remembered mine," I responded drolly.
She smiled. "Vanessa missed part of my name. It's Charlynn."
"Pretty."
She shrugged. "A mouthful."
"Maybe I'll stick to Red. It's easier."
