They’re not quite enemies. Not really friends.
More like frustrated balls of sexual tension and neither will give in.
Lance Gibson drives Mariah Malarkey absolutely
crazy. He uses her office like a phone booth, takes cupcakes from the corner of
her desk like she baked them just for him. She didn’t. Maybe she knew the
history teacher happened to love peanut butter icing, but that was purely a
coincidence. All sixteen times.
Mariah has a way of getting under Lance’s skin
too. She calls him out on his crap, spoils him even if inadvertently, and
seeing the librarian in skirts drives him wild. She won’t give in. It’s for the
best, really, considering there’s no way he could lie to a woman like that and
he’s not about to tell her the truth about himself. Not in a million years.
These two don’t hate each other. They don’t
really like each other. But for this to be a friends-to-lovers story, they have
to start somewhere, right?
Note: This can be read as a standalone novel.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
ADORED Lance's story!
"There's a weird-ass feeling I get around her that I kind of both hate and love."
Lance is the playboy, commitment-phobe, hot history teacher. He likes to meet women through a dating (ahem, hook-up) app. With his good looks, silver tongue, and engaging manner, he doesn't lack for female companionship, and always has plenty of stories to tell his brothers. The highlight of his day is winding up the hot librarian at school. He knows he should keep away from her because she wants what he can't give her.
"I've accepted it as my dirty little secret: I fantasize about Lance Gibson."
Mariah is the hot, serious librarian at the same school. She keeps Lance at arm's length, whilst also luring him into her office, every day, with her awesome baked goods. She's not interested in quick flings - she wants commitment, marriage, kids - the whole shebang. The highlight of her day is sparring with the hot history teacher. She knows that she should keep away from him because he'll likely break her heart.
When their private lives collide with their professional one, all bets are off!
I loved this novel so much! It had humour, angst, and gorgeous, hot chemistry! I loved the connection and banter between Lance and Mariah.
"...life isn't that complicated. It's meant to be lived with those we can't live without."
I think Lance is probably my favourite Locke hero to date. He's cheeky, charming and charismatic. He's also extremely caring and thoughtful beneath his flippant exterior. There's a depth to his character that is gradually revealed, as we learn about his past and why he's the man he is today. I loved his little "history tells us" lessons. They made me smile with the truth of them.
"Some people have to peel away their layers to get to the good stuff. You're already there."
Mariah is a sweetheart. She's a really good person. Kind, thoughtful and natural. I liked how she handled Lance. Her family's opinion and treatment of her had made her really insecure about herself, but I loved how Lance made her feel like a goddess - beautiful, sexy and desirable.
The other aspect I loved about this novel was the Gibson family dynamic. I enjoyed the closeness and the playfulness of the guys with each other, and their loyalty to one another.
This was such a fantastic story. Thoroughly recommend!
