REVIEW: Hello Stranger by Lisa Kleypas

Hello Stranger by Lisa Kleypas

A woman who defies her time

Dr. Garrett Gibson, the only female physician in England, is as daring and independent as any man—why not take her pleasures like one? Yet she has never been tempted to embark on an affair, until now. Ethan Ransom, a former detective for Scotland Yard, is as gallant as he is secretive, a rumored assassin whose true loyalties are a mystery. For one exhilarating night, they give in to their potent attraction before becoming strangers again.

A man who breaks every rule

As a Ravenel by-blow spurned by his father, Ethan has little interest in polite society, yet he is captivated by the bold and beautiful Garrett. Despite their vow to resist each other after that sublime night, she is soon drawn into his most dangerous assignment yet. When the mission goes wrong, it will take all of Garrett's skill and courage to save him. As they face the menace of a treacherous government plot, Ethan is willing to take any risk for the love of the most extraordinary woman he's ever known.

Caroline's Review

✮✮✮✮

Thoroughly enjoyed Garrett and Ethan's story set against a backdrop of political unrest. Some beautiful poetic writing to be read, incredibly romantic dialogue, and some sizzling intimate scenes.

"Everything about Garrett Gibson was...delicious....She was sunlight and steel, spun into a substance he'd never encountered before."

Garrett Gibson is woman with a man's name and man's job. She's avant-garde, independent, smart, resourceful, and has nerves of steel. She has no time for a relationship but every time she keeps encountering the shady Ethan Ransom, the more she realises that she can take pleasure where she wants it...just like a man.

"He was famished for her, had worshipped and wanted her for so long, but he'd never expected to have her in his arms."

Ethan Ransom is a man with a shady job. He is mysterious, intriguing, and is more than taken with the beautiful female doctor. However, he knows that he should steer clear of her - for his own good, as well as hers. Unfortunately, when his occupation puts her in the cross hairs of his enemy, he is willing to do anything to keep her safe.

This was such a good read. Garrett and Ethan were gorgeous together. I absolutely adored how romantic Ethan was. He had all the words! The sexual tension between them was thrilling and I was riveted by the two of them. Garrett is a woman before her time - she's forward-thinking and very modern for the era - almost scandalously so. I loved Ethan's protectiveness and his seeming omnipresence in Garrett's life. He had something of a chip on his shoulder but it tickled me the way West Ravenel won him over. LOL (I can't wait for West's book!). Overall, a great read and addition to this series.
