This was such a freakin' amazing read! I was absolutely riveted from the first page and couldn't bear to put it down!

"He wanted her heart, and he didn't know if she was ready to offer him that."

Reed Davies is a hero for the ages. Born of evil but living a noble life. He is strong, perceptive and intuitive, but also sensitive and protective. I swooned hard for this guy! When an unforgettable one-night stand becomes key in a murder investigation, he can't help but be drawn to the beautiful Elizabeth AKA Liza Nolan - a complicated woman with a horrifying past.

"He cared about her. He did. And she shouldn't be happy about that, but she was..."

Although Elizabeth has clearly overcome her terrible beginnings, she's still haunted by the past and dealing with deep issues. She knew Reed was different when she first met him but his patience, understanding and belief in her gets past her defences. And, let's not forget the electric chemistry between them!

"Tenderness blossomed inside him. She was so beautiful and so afraid, and a protectiveness he'd never experienced before gripped his insides."

Gaaah! My heart! This novel was a fine balance of romance and thriller. There was so much beauty amongst the horror depicted. Liza is one hell of a strong woman who has risen above adversity and shows us how an incredible and unexpected love gives her even more strength to do what must be done. And, Reed is one hell of a guy. Who else could be more suited for Liza than he? He had a wealth of understanding and he thoroughly proved himself to be worthy of her.

I just felt so much after reading this story. The intricate plot, the amazing connection between Liza and Reed, the dynamics between Reed and his family and his work partner - all of these things contributed to a Top Read of the year!
