Synopsis:

From the outside, Abby’s life looks like a fairytale.
Loving family, wealthy lifestyle, education at a prestigious university. The truth? She’s barely managing to survive. Few know the nightmare she lived before she was adopted. And no one knows the secret agony that still haunts her nightmares.
With a degree from Berkeley, she could have gone anywhere, but she’s back in Colorado. Not for a fresh start—fresh starts are only an illusion—but for Wes Ahern. Her protector, who throws around words like “therapy” and “talk to me.” Her brother in every way but blood. The one man she wishes could be so much more.

Maybe, just this once, she can stop running from her demons.
But does she dare let Wes see inside the darkest closets of her pain…or will love be the biggest mistake of her life?

An inspirational and emotional contemporary romance Begin with You is a heartbreaking tale of fresh starts and old wounds. This jarring and dark novel will leave readers at the edge of their seats. This is part one of a duet, thus containing a cliffhanger that leads into the next installment. It contains references to childhood trauma, kidnapping, and PTSD.

Caroline's Review

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

OMG! This is the first novel in a duet and I absolutely need the conclusion right now!!

"You're my anchor, just like I'm your compass."

Abigail Lyons came to the wealthy Ahern family as a foster kid. Their eldest son, Weston, was her champion from day one. As the years passed, they grew to be the best of friends, and as adults, their feelings start to evolve into something more.

"I decided to live among the monsters because I choose to walk through pain and relive my past, if it means that I'm beside you."

Abby's back story is told in flashbacks. Bit by bit, we witness her traumatic childhood and the experiences that still haunt her. In the meantime, Wes' fierce protectiveness and need to have her in his daily life, and the overwhelming realisation that although he knows his 'Abby girl', there are massive gaps in his knowledge about her early life - he pushes her for answers that she's not ready to give him. He, in turn, struggles with his own demons.

"Abigail Lyons is the only woman who not only makes me crave her sexually, but who also holds my heart in her hands."

This novel made me feel all sorts of emotions. I was eager for Wes and Abby to grow their relationship, I felt overjoyed by the change in their dynamic, I was anxious about Abby's experiences, I felt helpless in the face of Abby's terrors and Wes' inability to truly help her. I was thrilled to see familiar faces near the end of the story, who have come to help Abby gain her freedom from the shackles of the past.

Gah! I so need the concluding part. I'm rooting for Abby and Wes, and hoping that all their demons are laid to rest with a fiery vengeance!
