For Cooper, being a single dad was never part of the plan…

After the devastating loss of his wife, Cooper Matthews has to carry on for the one person who is counting on him to come out the other side—his young daughter. She’s all he needs, or so he thinks, until a chance encounter brings Lexi Beaumont into his life.

Escaping a toxic relationship, Lexi returns to the town where she grew up, eager to start over. Meeting Cooper exposes an undeniable chemistry between the two of them. But his conflicted feelings and the love he still carries for his wife, forces him to push Lexi away, keeping her at arm’s length.

Can two fractured hearts come together as one? Or will the past be too much for either of them to overcome?

Danielle's Review
⭐⭐⭐⭐

Cooper James Matthews *le sigh*

Cooper was deployed, hadn't even met his new baby daughter yet, when he receives tragic news. Having to return home, lost and broken, he does what he has to do to pick up the pieces, alone.

Lexi Beaumont is done with men. They're lying, cheating bastards! Well, not all of them, as she quickly learns with Coop.

Lexi moves back to a place from her childhood, with her friend Maddie, with nothing. Now she needs a place to live and a job to pay for it. As luck should have it, Cooper also needs a new nanny/housekeeper. Yeah, you see where this is heading, don't ya? ;)

It doesn't take long for the cautious couple to find their way, even with a few bumps in the road.
They're the most deserving storybook lovers I've read in a bit. I adored their HEA.

With all this said, as I got into the story, more than a few quips and phrases had me thinking...are they English? Is this set in the UK? My bestie is, so I'm very familiar with some of the lingo, so to speak. A quick FB search revealed the author is, in fact, English; the story however, is set in California. So it threw me off a bit reading the dialogue, as I had to keep reminding myself where they were. It didn't stop me from enjoying the book, but maybe the author should do a little research into American terms and everyday use of phrases. Because I promise you, we do not use most of the terms I read repeatedly in this book. lol
