EMMY
My fall from grace was one for the books. All it took was his word against mine for everything to topple.
Liar. Slut. Snitch.
Now, I wear my shame like a scarlet letter pinned to my chest.
People say I ruined his life. Except, he’s the one who irrevocably broke me—my heart, my body, my soul…my will to live.

STERLING
Like a little coward, she thinks the span of five states is enough to keep her safe. But I know where she is and I’m going to make her pay.
She ruined my best friend’s life. Now…I’m going to ruin her.
One by one, I’ll spill her secrets, until she has nowhere left to turn—except to me, her very own big, bad wolf.

Caroline's Review
🌟🌟🌟🌟

“Sterling is a bully, and everything I despise in a man, and yet my lips still burn with the flames of his kiss.”

Emmalyn Price has suffered unspeakable trauma and when she finally speaks up, she finds herself ostracized and vilified. When she escapes to college far from home, she’s hoping for a fresh start where nobody knows her, but is horrified to discover a very familiar face – someone who is determined to ruin her life. Even though she knows he’s using everything in his arsenal to weaken her, she can’t help feeling both aroused and disgusted by him.

“Something about seeing her in my shirt, in my space, it feels right. Natural, even. Which is downright terrifying.”

Sterling Abbot has a plan to avenge his lifelong best friend. However, all the while he’s trying to make Emmy miserable, seeds of doubt are planted in his mind. Add in the fact that his attraction to her is fierce, as his feelings for her start changing from hate into something else entirely, especially when he begins to understand that Emmy is not the villain of the story at all.

”He left her demise in my hands, but instead of hurting her, I’m going to heal her.”

So, this story dealt with a couple of hard-hitting subjects. Emmy’s feeling of isolation at home is hugely tempered by the friendships she makes when she arrives at college. I loved the close bonds she makes with her three closest friends (I adored Stella, Gabe and Zach!). She’s strong in so many ways, yet she has a hell of a lot of healing still to do. Initially, Sterling is pretty vicious in his victimisation of her. However, when he starts to put things together and realises Emmy’s real pain and the truth of things, his behaviour and attitude flipped completely. I must say that I found that a bit jarring. We have glimpses of Sterling in the past where we suspect that he’d always had a fondness for Emmalyn. It wasn’t necessarily an attraction, but it showed that he was actually a good, caring person. We also get glimpses where he realises that his best friend is a little bit extreme and his behaviour is somewhat off, but then he’ll still do his friend’s bidding out of loyalty. He just doesn’t seem to be the kind of guy who would do that without question. He must have known Emmy pretty well as she was growing up, so I found his clinical hatred of her a little bit hard to believe. What I did find believable was his growing love for her, and his need to look after her and do whatever he could to make her happy. I loved that Emmy felt safe with him. Overall, this was a great read, dealing with difficult subject matters sensitively, and showing us how love, support and trust from others can help the healing process immensely.

EXCERPT

“Waiting for your next victim?” a cool, dark voice asks from my left.
“What do you want?” I ask without turning around. His voice alone sends shivers down my spine. God only knows what seeing his smug smile and sharp jaw would do to me right now.
Stupidly, I let my guard down tonight. Every single fiber of my being is telling me to run, but I refuse—partly because the thought of making a scene in front of all of these people has my skin feeling tight and itchy, and also because I refuse to give him the satisfaction of seeing me run away... again.
Sterling leans in, his breath tickling my neck and his body warming mine. “I’m just saying. Dressed the way you are, you must be looking for a good time. And I can’t help but wonder...” He trails off, skimming his nose down the column of my throat before scraping his teeth against the sensitive flesh where my neck and shoulder meet.
“Stop it!” I pray for my voice to come out firm and commanding, but seeing as God abandoned me long ago, I sound raw and needy. Which is a lie. I am a lot of things in regard to Sterling Abbot—angry, frustrated, hurt—but definitely not needy.
I try to shoulder-check him, but he bands an arm around my waist and pulls me in closer, bringing my back flush with his front. The feel of our bodies pressed together has my heart slamming against my ribs as arousal and disgust battle for dominance inside of me.
Judging from my roiling gut and damp panties, it’s a tie.
“I don’t really think you mean that, little mouse.”
