Synopsis:

When I was nineteen years old, I was faced with a choice that changed my life.

Keep the safety of what I already knew or risk losing everything with the young, hotheaded soldier who stole my heart.

I chose the wrong man, and for seventeen years, I paid in tears, blood, and shattered dreams for that decision.

Now, there’s a man in my house, holding a gun to my head on the order of my ex-husband—given from his prison cell.

That hotheaded soldier I was too afraid to choose? He’s now a six-foot-three wall of muscle who works at the country’s most premier bodyguard agency. I’ve always wanted him, but now, I’ve never needed him more.

It’s the call I’m terrified to make.

I’m sure he still hates me… Even though I’ve never stopped loving him.

OMGEEEEEE! The angst! The heat! The suspense! The humour!

"In another life, we would have been soul mates."

Jeremy Lark fell in love with his best friend's girl from the day they were introduced. She had more in common with Jeremy than she did with Kurt. Plus, Kurt wasn't a good boyfriend to her. When things fell apart, she made a choice. She chose Kurt. And, Jeremy lost everything.

"When a man hits rock bottom, one of two things happens: He withers. Or he thrives."

For seventeen years, he proceeded to obliterate her from his heart and mind. He hated her for destroying what they had. In that time, he built himself up from nothing. He was content with what he had. It only takes one phone call to bring his world to a shuddering halt.

"Her eyes - they were exactly the same. Which, for me, might as well have been the kiss of death. Those eyes had always been my undoing."

Mira York has lived with her terrible decision for seventeen long years. When her life is in danger, Jeremy appears to be her only safe option. Unfortunately, his reception is less than welcoming. He despises her. However, when she thought she was out of options, he saves her. No matter how much he tries to keep her at arm's length, Mira worms her way back under his skin.

This book had everything you could want in a romantic thriller. The painful history, the taut chemistry, the immense feeling of loss and of what might have been, the wonder of rediscovery, and the overall suspense element.

This was such a fab read with strong characters. There was such fire between Jeremy and Mira. Mira was a tough female character. The choices she made were based on her circumstances and her beliefs, at the time. However, her strength of character held her in good stead; she was not a pushover by any means. Jeremy is so sexy and strong. He fought against his feelings so valiantly but there's a fine line between love and hate. I loved the alpha in him, his possessiveness, his tender spots. The ending was gorgeous! Gaaah! Thoroughly recommend this book!

AUTHOR INFORMATION:

Originally from Savannah, Georgia, USA Today bestselling author Aly Martinez now lives in South Carolina with her four young children. Never one to take herself too seriously, she enjoys cheap wine, mystery leggings, and baked feta. It should be known, however, that she hates pizza and ice cream, almost as much as writing her bio in the third person. She passes what little free time she has reading anything and everything she can get her hands on, preferably with a super-sized tumbler of wine by her side.
