This was a fabulous start to a new fantasy trilogy!

Katrina Summer is a troubled teenager – unpopular amongst her school peers and known as being ‘weird’. A devastating loss has her moving to Apollo Beach to live with a hitherto unknown relative. Strange dreams and visions plague her, as she struggles to make sense of her new reality and the secrets that she knows are being withheld from her. When the truth emerges, a whole new perspective on her life opens her eyes to an unexpected world, as well as emerging dangers.
I was absolutely intrigued and absorbed by Katrina’s story and the way the author built the background to her family history. This story raised so many questions about her heritage and also has the reader questioning whether the key players in this story are wearing deceptive masks. Katrina’s frustration with the secrets of her family were understandable, yet it explained so much about her experiences before she arrived at Apollo Beach. The tension between her and some of the other characters was electric and, even though this is a YA novel, I’m really hoping for some steam in the next book because….tension!! *wink wink* This story is privileged small-town, with mean girls, gorgeous men, and plenty of tantalising threads. I can’t wait for the next instalment!
