Tobias has been assigned a tutor, as he’s failing a couple of classes. He’s the star pitcher of the baseball team and on his way to super-stardom. Women throw themselves at him and guys just want to be him. When he meets Meyer, he’s taken aback by the fact that she will hardly look him in the eye, let alone bend over backwards for him. He’s puzzled and irritated but also intrigued. He’s a guy whose life is not much of a secret but she’s a girl who seems to be full of them. For a guy who can have a different woman every night, he finds himself wanting the only girl who doesn’t seem interested.

Meyer is just about keeping her head above water with life, work and college. When she’s forced to not only tutor the Playboy Pitcher but, in order to do so, has to give up a handful of her other students, she has no choice but to resign herself to it. She never wanted to have anything to do with him but, the more time she spends with him, she begins to realise that he’s so much more than the public persona he presents to the world. However, life isn’t that easy – in fact, hers is made up of a whole lot of complications.

This was SUCH a fantastic, slow-burn read. Initially, Tobias comes across as self-centred, flippant and bratty. Yes, he’s dedicated to being the best at his craft, but he behaves like he’s a god on campus. I loved that Meyer threw him for a loop. I enjoyed his fascination with her and swooned as his protective instincts came to the fore. He showed himself to be thoughtful and caring. I crushed on him hard when he found out the first secret about Meyer. He took it in his stride without a stumble - his only thought was to make her life easier. He had no doubt at all that he wanted her. Poor Meyer. She was trapped into her situation. I felt exhausted for her, but she was immensely admirable in the way she soldiered on with her life. The excitement and happiness that Tobias brought into her life was beautiful and hopeful. They had such intense, smouldering moments together. Wowzers! And, just when you feel smug that you’ve figured out all her secrets, the author leaves you reeling when you find out her truths. No lie. This story was brilliant, sexy and heartfelt.
