Jasmine Bisset is taking time out after a bad break-up. She's escaped to NYC to stay with her cousin, Soraya. On arrival, she's picked up by Ford Lingren. Her first impression of him is not great - he comes across as an uptight jerk. However, as the day and evening goes on, she gets glimpses of another side to him.
"Jasmine was just my type. She had a sweetness I'd love to spoil. A curiosity I'd love to explore. A beauty that charmed my muse."
Ford is in relationship-limbo but focused on providing for his siblings. He's ambitious, creative and pretty intense. Jasmine is like an enticing breath of fresh air. Unfortunately, he has unfinished business and a future that doesn't align with hers.
"You want to know what binds us? Raw honesty. Whisper what's hard, whisper your dreams, and I'll carry them. And you'll carry mine."
I thought Ford and Jasmine complemented each other. He was multi-faceted. He came across as a geeky, stuck-up suit but underneath he was emotional, tender and immensely passionate. Jasmine had so much wonder in her. In spite of several failed relationships, she yearned to be seen and loved for herself. I loved her individuality - she reveled in her nerdiness and goofiness. She brought freshness and colour into Ford's world. I loved the way he wanted to indulge her. Together, they were easy yet intense, fervent and tender. I loved how much they wanted a future together and the sacrifices they were willing to make to ensure that. Never read this author before and it won't be the last time.
