Benson Bexley has a heart of stone.
Apparently, nothing changes.
When he returns home after a decade gone, I recognize him right away.
How could I forget him?
He’s the same cocky flirt who slid dirty poetry to me in art class.
With the same stone-cold stare that shields his soul from the world.
And that same sharp-edged jaw that cuts straight through a heart like a dagger.
Fortunately, I see right through his arrogant charm.
Even better, he doesn’t remember who I am.
And I have no intention of reminding him.
After all, it’s only a matter of time until his nomadic life takes him away again.
When he relentlessly pursues me, I devise an evil plan.
Play along with his dirty, poetic charm.
And then give him a taste of his own medicine.
Revenge.
It’s not in my nature.
But Benson Bexley deserves nothing less.
It’s time for that heart of stone to shatter.

This was a beautiful read. I loved everything about it.
"She's the type of woman I don't just stay far away from...I run. Women like her see right through men like me, and I don't like to be seen."
Benson Bexley has been away from home for ten years, wandering the world and living simply. When his brother, Cayson, comes home to recuperate after suffering traumatic injuries, Benson knows that he needs to go home. He doesn't want to be there, nor does he plan to stay. To kill time, he enrolls on a mixed media art course, where he meets the beautiful Brooklyn Kennedy. His attempts at flirting with her are met with contempt and mild hostility. What he doesn't realise is that they knew each other when they were both seniors.
"You're beautiful. Inside, outside, and all the spaces in between."
Brooklyn hasn't seen Benson for ten long years and it doesn't appear that he has changed at all. However, as he continues to pursue her, she finds her barriers breaking down. The more time she spends with him, the more she realises that there's so much she didn't know about Benson and the past.
"You're my strength, my light, my balance, my focus. You're the contrast I never knew I needed."
I really loved this story. Benson was all charm and sexy humour, but beneath all that, he was closed off and his pain was soul deep. Brook was intrinsically a good person and her little deception was on her conscience, and I felt sorry that she didn't just tell Benson the truth. Benson's personal journey was agonising but also beautiful, as he came to terms with his past and dared to hope for a future with Brook. It hurt how he saw the beauty in nature and the world around him, but still held darkness inside him. I loved how everything came full circle for them. This story had great banter, was incredibly sexy,
and also joyously life-affirming. A fabulous read!
