REVIEW: Lost Rider by Harper Sloan

Lost Rider (Coming Home, #1)

Lost Rider (Coming Home #1) by Harper Sloan

In Lost Rider, the first Western romance in New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Harper Sloan’s Coming Home series, an injured rodeo star encounters an old flame but will she be just what he needs to get back in the saddle?

Maverick Austin Davis is forced to return home after a ten-year career as a rodeo star. After one too many head injuries, he’s off the circuit and in the horse farming business, something he’s never taken much of a shine to, but now that it’s his late father’s legacy, familial duty calls. How will Maverick find his way after the only dream he ever had for himself is over?

Enter Leighton Elizabeth James, an ugly duckling turned beauty from Maverick’s childhood—his younger sister’s best friend, to be exact, and someone whose heart he stomped all over when she confessed her crush to him ten years back. Now Leighton is back in Maverick’s life, no longer the insecure, love-stricken teen—and Maverick can’t help but take notice. Sparks fly between them, but will Leighton be able to open her heart to the one man who broke it all those years ago?

Written in the vein of Diana Palmer and Lindsay McKenna, this Texas-set series is filled with sizzle, heart, and plenty of cowboys!

Julie's Review ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This has you gripped and turning the pages to see how it all develops.

Two people destined to be together, working out the reasons that kept them apart for some time.

A true deep love, binding these two. The Lost Rider, Maverick comes back into town to bury his father, to find himself face to face with his past. The Ugly Duckling has grown into a beautiful swan, his teenage crush, Leighton.

What starts as a very tempestuous and angry beginning turns into a story, full of love, passion, and new beginnings.

As siblings Clay, Maverick and Quinn had a tough upbringing with their mother leaving and their father bearing the brunt, very badly - he was an abusive drunk.

Mav is away for 10 years and learns a lot about where he came from, to making it big, on the bull riding circuit, where one last fall ended his career but it's where he's headed.

Watching Maverick and Leighton navigate through the missed years, in their discovery of what's in their future. There are so many heartfelt and deep-seated feelings, how they both deal with the hurt and rejection of the past - the love, passion and understanding they now have for each other.

I loved the relationship between Mav, Clay and Quinn and also the relationship between Leighton, Clay and Quinn. But the best was Leighton and Quinn - they were hilarious, as was Jana who worked with Leighton at the PieHole.

Mav and Leighton didn't have an easy ride, but their hearts held them in good stead. A beautiful story of love conquering all, and the characters on the periphery adding the right amount of sass and intrigue.
