Oh my poor heart, this author has such a way of twisting up my emotions. I just feel completely wrung out after finishing this novel, but in a thoroughly good way!

"A long time ago, he'd promised me I'd always be his home. That together, we were gonna build a castle. And the man had never been anything but a liar."

The moment Faith caught sight of the new boy at school, she was captivated. Jace was the bad boy to her good girl, but underneath his roughness and hostility, she saw something worthwhile in him. She fell hard and fast in love with him but he ended up breaking her heart. Fast forward ten years with her life in turmoil, he's suddenly back in town, bringing old feelings back to the surface. Unfortunately, her mind is not ready to trust him, even though her heart is telling her differently.

"My muscles flexed and contracted and tightened. Body roaring. Demanding I make a claim. Mine. She'd always been mine."

The town always saw Jace and his family as trash, but Faith always saw something more in him. Believed in him. Loved him. When he finds himself trapped in terrible circumstances, he has no choice but to leave town, and leave the girl he loves behind. When he learns that her life might be in danger, he's compelled to return to help her. To protect her. To win her back. However, he's keeping ten years' worth of secrets, and he's positive that these secrets could destroy his chances with her.

"Do you think I could ever forget a single moment with you? Not ever. Not for a second. You were the only good thing I ever had."

This story was so amazing and so heartrending. It was full of emotional turmoil - thrilling highs and gut-wrenching lows. The love and despair between Jace and Faith was stunning and made me yearn for everything they'd lost and everything they could have again. Add in the way adorable Bailey Button shot little unicorn darts at my heart, and I honestly don't know what to do with myself!

"Just looking at her had energy replacing the air around me. Sizzling and shivering through the atmosphere."

Faith was always a good girl with a soft heart. As an adult and a mother, I identified with her fierce love and maternal instincts to protect her child. I understood that she needed to guard her heart against Jace because he'd thoroughly shattered it when they were younger, but I mentally urged her to piece together the few clues he dropped and question how things really were in the past.

"I'd never loved anyone the way I'd loved him. He was a fire that consumed. A strike in the night. So wrong. So right."

Jace! Oh, Jace! What a solid, noble guy. My heart bled for him. There was so much goodness in him and he'd sacrificed so much for the people he loved. I was rooting for him all the way because....how could I not? His feelings for Faith were riotous - I don't know how he didn't just explode with how much he loved and desired her. 

This was such an amazing story with a good mystery thrown in. I loved how the author kept me in suspense with the gradual unveiling of so many truths. Her words are MAGIC. Just brilliant!
