So, I haven't read the first two books, but this is a standalone and I loved the blurb so decided to read it. It read fine as a standalone but would probably have been better if I'd read the first two books, just to get a better knowledge of the back story of the characters.

"We're in a holding pattern, but he's mine. What's more complicated is I'm his, and I'm not sure what that's going to mean when it's time to walk away."

Reanna Lorak has a mission to go under cover as a student at Thornton College to retrieve a missing notebook from Professor Dirk Winston. She has no intention of sleeping with him to recover the book but, from the moment she lays eyes on him, she knows that she wants him. Dirk is not the computer nerd that Reanna envisaged. Ten years older, built, and absolutely gorgeous, she pursues him relentlessly until he finally gives in to temptation. Unfortunately, when feelings become real, Reanna finds herself in a tenuous situation because Dirk doesn't realise that the woman he's risking his reputation and livelihood for is the enemy.

I admit that I was halfway through the book before I started to like the heroine. I knew her back story and the reasons for her actions when it came to seducing Dirk, but I struggled with feeling any sympathy for her. I think it was because she was tenacious and calculating in her pursuit of him, making him seem a bit hapless. Whereas Dirk was genuine in his struggle to keep his distance, no matter how much he desired Reanna. I loved that he was looking for something real. He was ready to fall in love with someone and it really bothered me that he fell for her whilst she was following another agenda. Once I got to the halfway mark, I started to root for them because they were so happy when they were together, so fiery and sexy, and Reanna was her true self. I adored Dirk - he was a good guy through and through, really caring and loved his family so much. Overall, this was a great story and I loved how all the characters were connected to each other.
