The Purest Hook by Scarlett Cole
Can a love built on secrets survive?
Rugged, hot, and rock hard, Dred Zander is exactly the type of man that normally sends Pixie running. Not dreaming about running her hands down his washboard abs...and lower. The lead singer and guitarist for the band Preload embodies trouble behind his quick smile and guarded eyes, and Pixie left trouble behind her years ago along with the name Sarah Jane Travers and the pathetic trailer her mom called home. With her abusive past in her past, she has a new life, a new family at Second Circle, and a dream of opening her own business. She needs capital and time. What she doesn't need is a tempting long-haired rocker or the paparazzi that follow him around.
But Dred has other ideas. Pixie's sweet hazel eyes, purple hair and kaleidoscopic tattoo of exotic flowers that swirl up her arm haunt his dreams, and he knows she wants him too. He just has to convince her. But as a juicy exposé threatens to expose their pasts, and a blackmailer terrorizes their present, Pixie and Dred have to decide what really matters and fight like hell to keep it.
Caroline's Review ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
“While he was the moody verse, Pixie was the catchy melody. His snowflake was the sweetest, purest hook.”
This book was a fantastic read!
Two souls with traumatic pasts. Both still struggle with their issues, both still harbouring secrets, both scared to take a chance at love.
Dred is lead singer of a metal band. He and his four ‘brothers’ met in a children’s home and formed a solid unit together. He’s known Pixie for a while now and never fails to flirt with her. Deep down, he realises that he wants more with her than a quick fling.
Pixie ran away from home and found a new family to belong to with Trent and Cujo, owners of The Second Circle tattoo shop. She’s harbouring some major secrets and has personal issues. She is incredibly drawn to Dred and his attention to her eventually cuts through her bravado, and she’s ready to take a risk and explore her feelings and attraction for him.
She lives in Miami and doesn’t want to leave her ‘brothers’. He lives in Toronto and travels a lot with the band. Pixie’s past rears its frightening, ugly head, while Dred finds out about an added complication to his life.
This was a brilliant story. Love this author and the way she writes. There was a vein of grittiness running through this story, as well as a sweetness and desire that made me melt. I was desperate for them to resolve things and hoped nothing nasty was going to happen to either of them because they were both so deserving of a happy ending. It had me on tenterhooks wondering what was going to happen next. Thoroughly recommend this novel!
