Synopsis:

All I’ve ever wanted was for someone to choose me. My mother didn’t. My father didn’t. The beautiful boy next door, who grew up to marry me, didn’t. Neither did the next man with whom I thought my heart was safe. Back in the Bay area, three thousand miles from New York City, I can start fresh. Become one with the sea again, rise or fall on the tide of my own choices. But on the first day of my bright new life, the darkest shadows of my past follow me through my office door. The two men whose names are definitely not on my five-year plan. If I let it consume me—my need for one man, my love for the other—the darkness will swallow me whole. I can’t let that happen. Not again. This time, the waves of emotion crashing against my heart won’t drown me. This time, I get to choose my happy ending.

Caroline's Review
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

My favourite read of this series so far!

"The two men I've loved, in the same room. The same men who decided I wasn't enough for them."

Hazel Beesley has moved to the other side of the country. Her excuse is business. Her real reason is a fresh, personal start. She never expected to come face-to-face with her old love. And, she never expected her more recent heartbreak to follow her across the continent.

Both want another chance with her. Both are determined to prove that he's the man for her.

This was a soul-searching, angsty and emotional read.

Hazel is such a strong person - stronger than she gives herself credit for. She's always putting other people first so this story was something of a journey for her to overcome her own personal demons and issues of self-worth.

"One day she has to realize that my love for her is infinite."

Scott Everhart is so swoony! I loved that he was his true self with Hazel. Normally detached and tough yet, deep down, Hazel completely twisted him up inside. He's loved her from the beginning of their acquaintance and friendship, but personal fears have held him back from declaring himself. I loved how in sync they were with each other and how well they could read each other.

Elliot McFee is pretty likeable. They were so young when they met and he made his fair share of mistakes because he had personal pressures. He was certainly persistent, and I felt a weirdness that he felt like he and Hazel could just pick up where they left off. He's not a bad person, just somewhat misguided.

This was a really fab read. I was definitely Team Scott all the way. He was such a tortured soul but I loved his passion and devotion to Hazel. I loved the funny banter and the sexy exchanges between them. They had such gorgeous chemistry!

Looking forward to the next book in this series.
