It was his lips.
The way his stare sent shivers down my spine.
The way his rough voice whispered my name.
So I caved.
I did what I knew I shouldn’t.
But as quickly as he’s there, he’s gone.
Leaving me confused.
Devastated.
I hope I’ll never see him again…
Then I do.
He’s my new boss.
And he has secrets.

*Sordid is a COMPLETE standalone novel.

Caroline's Review

4.5 Stars

This novel was a solid 4.5 stars.

"The man has me glued to the spot, completely off-kilter. He listed to every word I spewed. Has anyone ever done that before? Not for a long time."

Bridget is desperate to escape from beneath the sisters' shadows. She's determined to not be a flake and make it on her own. This is very much her time to shine. However, she's got her work cut out for her. When a temp job finds her working for the stranger who made her feel like the most desirable woman on earth, only to rip himself away leaving her feeling confused and rejected, she's not sure if this is going to work out.

"She's the one person who makes me feel. It's been so long. I never thought I'd feel that way again. The need. The desire."

Grant is trapped in a hell of his own making. His secrets keep him isolated, lonely, and angry. Bridget's presence in his life is simultaneously exhilarating and painful. But, being with her could cost him everything.

"Her strong will calls to me, and I'm losing the battle with myself every damn day."

This novel was hugely angsty and incredibly hot! It was absolutely seething with barely-suppressed desire. The connection between Bridget and Grant was tangible. I loved how Bridget's sassiness and determination to prove herself in her job broke down Grant's walls, and brought him back to life. I loved how she made him feel alive, again. I admired her attitude in dealing with Grant's hot and cold behaviour.

"You mean everything to me. I'll fight for us if you will."

I really felt for Grant's situation. His helplessness had me feeling equally helpless and full of despair. The resolution to his dilemma was perfect. However, as much as I enjoyed the build up and the climax to the story, I felt that the ending was a bit rushed and too quickly tied up. Nonetheless, I really enjoyed the book, and this author's writing style, and plan to catch up with her other novels very soon.
