NEW RELEASE & TOP READ Review: Preston's Honor by Mia Sheridan

Preston's Honor

Preston's Honor by Mia Sheridan

There were two brothers—identical twins—and though I loved them both, my soul belonged to only one.

Annalia Del Valle has loved Preston Sawyer all her life. The daughter of an impoverished migrant farmworker, she grew up as an outcast in what was no more than a tiny, cooped up shack in California’s Central Valley. But her heart found freedom in the land, in the wide-open spaces of Sawyer Farm, and in the boys who were her only friends.

Preston has yearned for Annalia since he was a boy. But a sense of honor kept him from pursuing her until he’s unable to hold back any longer and their worlds—and bodies—collide one hot summer night. A night that sets off a chain of events that will alter their lives forever.

Now Annalia is back in town after disappearing without a trace for six long months. Determined to reclaim her heart, her life, and the baby she left behind—the son who was created in a moment of lust and love and pent-up yearning.

Preston has survived grief, a ravaging drought, and the despair of heartache, but he’s not sure he can survive Annalia again. And he might be unwilling to try. Will pride and bitterness keep him from the one thing he’s always longed for?

How do you heal what is irreparably broken? How do you forgive that which is unforgivable? How do you discover that real honor comes not from circumstance, but from the place deep in our hearts where truth resides? And how do you move beyond the wounds of the past to discover that some loves are as solid as the ground beneath your feet, and as enduring as the earth itself?

THIS IS A STAND-ALONE SIGN OF LOVE NOVEL, INSPIRED BY GEMINI. New Adult Contemporary Romance: Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.

Caroline's Review ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

“I loved two brothers – identical twins – but it was only one soul that spoke to mine. One soul I’d always belonged to.”

Oh my heart! This story was just STUNNING! It is, without a doubt, a classic Mia Sheridan novel. It has the author’s stamp ALL OVER IT.

Preston and Cole Sawyer, identical in looks but very different in temperament. Cole was the outgoing, smiling, flirty brother. Preston was the serious, quiet, thoughtful one. They were part of the affluent crowd but they both adored their little friend, Lia.

Annalia ‘Lia’ Del Valle, dirt poor and illegitimate daughter of an illegal Mexican immigrant. She, in turn, adored the Sawyer brothers but she kept her true self hidden from them. She never wanted to be a burden, never wanted to embarrass her two best friends with the disparity in their social circumstances.

“My heart, it seemed, knew only how to beat for him, like the wings of a bird soaring through an endless sky.”

Lia loved both brothers but she yearned only for one.

One challenge resulted in one oath. It was the beginning of a sequence of events that lead to a betrayal, tragedy, guilt, and heartbreak.

This was a story of heart-wrenching yearning and denial. I kept anxiously checking how far into the story I was, as I couldn’t wait to get past the 50% mark before I felt that I could start looking forward to some healing. This author has a real talent for emotionally twisting the reader inside out.

“I’m coming to see that sometimes the most damaging borders are inside of us.”

It was almost painful to read how Lia lived her life within the parameters that life had set for her and, indeed, Preston was much the same. They both set boundaries for themselves that they felt they couldn’t breach. I kept wanting to shout: Fight for her! Fight for him! Both were honourable with a shed-load of integrity, until one defining moment of jealousy brought all their pent-up passion to an explosive head.

“Part of my love for Preston was like a slow-moving river that had gained breadth and speed over time. And another part came in short bursts of white-hot lightning, marking the very moments when the love in my heart had charged and intensified.”

This tale was a fine tapestry of first love and second chances, riddled with silence, hidden thoughts, fear, misunderstanding, and hopelessness. However, woven through it all is a soul-deep unwavering love, intense passion, and forgiveness.

This author’s style always has a nostalgic, retro feel. The way she weaves her words into something beautiful and stunning, lyrical and dreamy - all the feelings and emotions resonating clearly, long after you’ve finished it.

This is most definitely a Top Read 2017.
