Review: Safe Bet by Monica Murphy

Safe Bet (The Rules, #4)

Safe Bet by Monica Murphy

Sydney Walker’s new job is perfect. As the live-in nanny to the most famous quarterback in the NFL and his beautiful wife, she couldn’t have it any better. Their kids are adorable. Her bosses are more than generous. Plus, there are hot football players at the house all the time. Life can’t get much better than this.

Until her life turns into an absolute nightmare. The media is abuzz with rumors that she and her boss Drew Callahan are having a torrid affair. Everyone knows the truth—except the public. So Drew’s wife Fable comes up with the perfect idea.

She creates a fake relationship between Sydney and one of the rookie players on Drew’s team. Wade Knox is forever indebted to Drew and Fable and readily agrees to the set up. Pretending to be in a romantic relationship with the hot nanny for a week—how hard can it be?

Crazy how it only takes one week for two people to fall head over heels in love…

(This mash-up new adult romance features characters from both the One Week Girlfriend series and The Rules series.)

Caroline's Review ⭐⭐⭐⭐

By the author’s own admission, this story was not particularly angsty or heartbreaking, like the other novels in the One Week Girlfriend series, but it’s great fun and sexy. Also, it was fabulous to revisit Drew and Fable from the first two books in the series.

“Her gaze slips to mine, and then flitters away. But that one quick glance was like a sucker punch to my gut. The nanny is beautiful.”

Sydney lied to her parents, who subsequently kicked her out of their house and stripped her of her rich-girl privileges. Her brother manages to get her an interview for the role of live-in nanny with a famous football star’s family. It’s important that she can stand on her own two feet. She doesn’t have time for love or relationships.

“The more time I spend with Wade, the more I like him. That can’t be helped. I’m drawn to him.”

Wade is on the verge of football stardom. He’s on his way to living his dreams but insecurity plagues him. He’s so focused on his career that he doesn’t have time for love or relationships.

Neither of them believe in love or marriage. But, attraction? That’s something else. There was a spark of electricity on first contact.

When the paparazzi take a photo of Sydney and misconstrue the circumstances, she becomes vilified in the press. To help take the heat off her and her employers, they come up with a scheme. Sydney and Wade should fake a relationship.

What starts out as fake slowly becomes more, as their friendship blossoms, and their desire and feelings bloom.

This was a very enjoyable, easy read.
