Wilder by Rebecca Yarros

He’s Paxton Wilder.

Twenty-two-year-old, tattooed, smoking-hot leader of the Renegades.

Five time X Games medalist.

The world is his playground—especially this year—and for the next nine months I’m stuck as his tutor on the Study at Sea program.

He’s too busy staging worldwide stunts for his documentary to get to class.

But if I can’t get him to take academics seriously, I’ll lose my scholarship…if I don’t lose my heart first.

Six unlikely friends on a nine-month cruise with the Study at Sea program will learn that chemistry is more than a subject and the best lessons aren’t taught in the classroom…but in the heart.

Caroline's Review ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

“Are you ready for an adventure?”

I'm so in love with this book!

What a ride!! I found this story absolutely captivating. I couldn’t put it down. It was thrilling, electric, humorous, and really, really sexy!

“Do you ever stop to think that you're moving too fast to savor anything around you before it's gone?”

I adored the storyline with the at-sea setting, the cities visited, the extreme sports, the danger, and the secrets. It was full of vibrant imagery and butterflies-inducing chemistry. I could almost feel the adrenaline rushing through my veins.

Eleanor ‘Leah’ Baxter is sick of feeling scared. A horrific tragedy, two years earlier, has left her alive, physically and emotionally scarred, but not really living. She signs up for the Study at Sea program and finds herself living in the lap of luxury, as she’s been given a scholarship on the basis that she will be tutoring a fellow student. Her best friend, Rachel, was supposed to be with her but a bout of illness meant that she’ll be on her own for a few months before Rachel can fly out to join her.

“I was always in control, it was how I survived, how I thrived and excelled, but this girl – this woman – had the power to shred that control if I wasn’t careful.”

Paxton Wilder is an extreme sportsman. He lives for the rush, the thrills, the adventure. He’s famous, a player, and comes from a wealthy family. He’s never had to work to get a woman. He wants Leah from the first moment he sees her, but she’s off limits for more than one reason. He finds her exquisite of beauty and brain. He's enchanted by her sassy, smart mouth. He doesn’t rate love and shields himself from long-term relationships.

“He was magnetic, hypnotizing. It wasn’t just the body, the face, or the tattoos. He made me feel anything was possible, like there was a whole shiny world waiting for me to step inside and explore.”

Leah’s attraction to Paxton is immediate but he’s her student. Also, she’s not ready for love, again, especially with someone who risks his life every day. However, the more time they spend together, the more they get under each other’s skin.

“When are you going to understand that’s where life begins? Right at the edge of that fear.”

Their romantic journey was such a beautiful thing. I loved that Paxton pushed Leah well out of her comfort zone, that he wanted to help her to overcome her fears. I loved the intense feelings he had for her. When he knew he wanted her for more than just a fling, he was determined to wear her down and get her to say, ‘yes’. Leah is an incredible, strong woman. I admired her for everything that she’d lived through, and how she let go of her fears to start experiencing life and love, again.

“I wanted to touch her heart, to claim a piece for my own...I wanted to strip away her defenses like she’d obliterated mine. It wasn’t enough to take the piece, to own it by force. No, I wanted it freely given, wanted her to look at me, see me, and then deem me worthy.”

This was such an amazing, wonderful book about love, loyalty, friendship, courage. So well-written, so exciting, so adventurous. It totally captured my imagination.
