Rosie LeBlanc and Dean 'Ruckus' Cole fell in love when they were teenagers. However, Rosie's older sister, Millie, claimed him before she could do anything about it. Dean wanted to protect Millie from his friend, Vicious, and Rosie adored her sister, who was good to the core. So, they kept away from one another.
"Her clock was ticking faster, and I was done letting her waste our time."
Eleven years on, Rosie is living in Dean's apartment building. She's newly single and he's determined to finally make her his. However, the obstacles in their way seem to be insurmountable, not least Rosie's life expectancy. There's also Dean himself. Everyone believes he's the life of the party, but his happy-go-lucky, flippant facade hides a darkness that torments him.
"Dean 'Ruckus' Cole had many faces. And all of them were beautiful. At least to me."
This story was beautiful and sad. Angsty and sexy. Desperate and joyful. Rosie offsets her health condition by living her life on her own terms, in spite of her family's opposition and disapproval. When Dean finally breaks her walls down, she grabs on to him with both hands. Dean is so tortured and the only thing clear to him is Rosie. He needs her. He wants her. He's done living his life without her.
"I live for you. I breathe for you. I will die for you. It. Has. Always. Been. You."
Their chemistry is freakin' amazing. Their love is all-consuming. It made my heart feel hollow to know they wasted eleven years without each other, but the knowledge that Dean was greedy and possessive to have Rosie completely take over his life made my heart full.
A wonderful, life-affirming story.
