Caroline's Review ⭐⭐⭐⭐

“He awakens feelings in me I thought were long gone, dangerous feelings. They could destroy me. I don’t know if I’m ready for that.”

April is a TV journalist who has recently split from her loser boyfriend, Leo. When his attempts to win her back escalate to another level, her brother hires a private investigator to protect her. However, when April meets the PI, she recognises him as the one-night stand she had a couple of years earlier – and hasn’t been able to forget since.

“It was the girl who’d managed to crawl under my skin in less than a night.”

Jude is shocked to find that his new client is the girl who was the best sex of his life. He avoids serious commitments due to his line of work, preferring one night stands and meaningless encounters. April is hostile to the idea of having her freedom curbed but her brother is insistent. When the elusive Leo’s attempts to win her back take a more sinister turn, April and Jude go into hiding.

“The last few nights I sat beside her bed, watching her sleep. Only then could I allow my emotions to run free.”

Living in close quarters challenges both their resolve to not give in to the undeniable chemistry and hot memories between them. Jude’s ethics and April’s stubbornness are tested to the limit. As their feelings grow, the danger draws ever closer.

This was a great, sexy, suspense story. The author builds it up and keeps us guessing until the denouement. In the meantime, she also develops the relationship between Jude and April, and also gives us an insight into their original encounter. April is successful and independent, and is so angry and resentful about having her movements restricted by a bodyguard, especially as it’s someone who she shared the hottest night of her life with. She’s actually pretty annoying in her stubbornness to be careful and thoughtful of the consequences of her actions, until she realises the severity of her situation. Jude is incredibly attracted to April but fights to keep things professional. She frustrates him with her defiance of his instructions, and the fact that she’s burrowed firmly under his skin. He counters her effect on him with his cocky and suggestive flirtation.

This story was a pretty thrilling ride with a couple of heart-stopping moments, and finishes on a lovely note.
